The Truth about White Foods

I want to tell you about the importance of carbohydrates in general and white foods, potatoes in particular for the fitness and health of our body. The fitness and health professionals say that potatoes contain carbohydrates which are to be avoided for our body. They also say to avoid white foods in order to keep our body fit and healthy.

I surely agree that white bread and refined white sugar are the worst things to be avoided but I don’t agree with avoiding white carbohydrates. Now I understand that there is a growing importance for colorful foods and the protective antioxidants that they contain. There is a norm to take on colors and stay away from white.

Yes, it is a fact that colorful foods are great, but it is wrong to avoid white foods. There are plenty of white foods that have specific nutrients which are very useful to our body and they are very hard to find elsewhere.

For example:
Onions & Garlic
Onions and garlic are white foods and also they contain good amount of protective phytonutrients, vitamins, and rare minerals that aren’t so easy to find elsewhere… such nutrients as allicin, quercetin, chromium, and other unique anti-inflammatory nutrients.

Onions are very good for our health. A Study conducted on people that live to over 100 years old shows that they were healthy individuals because they ate a lot of onions throughout their lives. And garlic is one of the most powerful substances for a strong immune system in our body.

Cauliflower contains vitamin C, fiber, minerals, and special compounds such as glucosinolates and thiocyanates, which are specifically abundant in cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, and cabbage. By eating cauliflower you can help prevent excess belly fat.

Many people are not aware that even white mushrooms have high levels of nutrients and antioxidants. White mushrooms are high in two types of antioxidants called polyphenols and ergothioneine. Some types of mushrooms have Vitamin D.

Many people think that potatoes contain high carbohydrate which is not good for health. But our body needs good amount of carbohydrates to keep fit and healthy. For that we need to eat such a big watermelon. So instead of eating such a big watermelon we can do with potatoes which are convenient and much cheaper. No doubt that watermelon has great source of vitamins, minerals. My point is that candy bars, cupcakes, donuts, etc. make you fat but not watermelons, carrots, potatoes. So white potatoes are very good for our body as long as you eat them in the right form with the entire skin. Don’t damage them by deep frying. Potatoes contain so many vitamins and minerals. Actually potato eaters had consistently lost their weight. An average sized potato has only about 100-120 calories. Nothing wrong to eat potatoes when eaten in the right form.
